Detroit isn’t exactly exciting these days, but one annual staple of the city is still alive and kicking. This year’s North American International Auto Show served as a stark reminder that the auto industry is down but not out. Innovations and new technologies from almost all of the major auto makers proved that the industry is committed to its renewed focus on fuel efficiency and reducing its impact on the environment. At the same time, a lot of manufacturers stepped forward and showed that they can still bring the same power in neater, more efficient packages.

Volkswagen announces world debut of Jetta
HERNDON: Volkswagen (VW) America has announced the world debut of the all-new Jetta. Completely overhauled and drawing inspiration from the New Compact Coupe concept car shown in Detroit , the new Jetta has a longer wheelbase and exterior length.
Volkswagen is world renowned for its design, safety features and innovative technology. And as proof of this, the largest German automaker has unveiled its cleanest diesel ever at the recent North American International Auto Show. The Jetta TDI which will be made available in the US market by spring of 2008 meets the emission standards set in all 50 states including the strictest “TIER 2/BIN 5” or “LEV II/LEV” requirement that limits nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions to 0.50g/mile.
